@Anacinc This camera (being so old) is probably using the CMOS chip instead of the CCD. CMOS chips are notorious for this phenomenon. Especially video cams/ It can still be achieved with the CCD but it is difficult. Pointing a camera is a big no no in photography because it can cause serious damage to the camera. But you are correct. This is not an eclipse. It is just a photography phenomenon. The camera is protecting itself from extreme light and damage.

Glad you have the common knowledge about ccd cameras
i always feel like slapping people for pointing the camera directly at the sun ... the users guide says not to do that without a filter.

That's no eclipse... that's the CCD chip that goes bezerk due to the fact that it isnt able to cope with such a enormous lightinput. This lightinput it the strongest coming from the round sun "disk" there where the chip blacks out so to speak...
