  • By the way I noticed that There is no "Object" or "Cube" listed at "Mirror Object" Why is that? I have selected the half-cutted cube allready. What was wrong?

  • @PettyundAlbert Hi you could be using the newer version of Blender. This tutorial was done using the older 2.49b version. Try to watch the new Fedora Hat version for 2.5 that is in my video list. I think you can find the solution there. Cheers and Thanks for watching!

  • @weeliano Does The Blender version 2.6 also containing the same User Interface as the 2.5x versions of blender you have used for the other videos? Because "Set Smooth" is not listed by pressing W, just "shading smooth". Is that the same as set smooth or not? Because then I will aplay shading smooth. I also would have Smooth.

  • @PettyundAlbert Shading smooth and sub surf smoothing are very different. Shading smooth makes a polygonal mesh look smooth without increasing the amount of polygons, whereas Sub Surf smooth dub divides the polygons to give a smoother appearance. Usually these 2 are used together to give a smoother look. Blender 2.49b and 2.5+ has different User interfaces. I would suggest you start by visiting Blender Cookie's basic tutorials to get a good overview. (google it)

  • 01:16: "...go to edit mode, press Ctrl-R, and it's split into half." Holy cow I can't get that. Played and replayed and tried and retried. On my Linux system I go into edit mode, the box turns pink. I press Ctrl-R I see this movable yellow square inside the cube. Then what?"

  • @shwaybotx may I suggest you look at my fedora hat or the simple airplane tutorial. Also the fork tutorial, those may be easier to follow. Don't give up, keep trying and experiment.

  • Hi there,

after I deleted the other half of the cube, I couldn 't apply the mirror modifier. So the Cube was not duplicated. I have made everything step by step, but at the time where you show how to use the mirror modifier the cube is not mirrored. What could be wrong there? Could you make your moves a bit slower so we could follow you better please? Thank you.

  • @shwaybotx Actually I was having the same issue as well, I couldn't select the box at all, I slice in half, but no way of deleting the other box. I am knew to blender and sadly I found this simple step to be so hard. Even knowing Photoshop and other editing software. Sigh..

  • Sigh. You put a lot of information out there in the first 1 minute and 21 seconds on this video. I have specifically played and replayed between 01:10 and 01:21 about 2 dozen times and still it's going fast. YOU know what you're doing, but we don't. I went into edit mode. The box turned pink. I pressed ctrl-R and the line inside the box appears. I can get the line to be in the center of the box. I can't figure out how to cut the box in half and you just go breezing on on on!

  • @barlin717 Hi, you can check out my other blender videos on my youtube channel and see how easy it is to model basic items. The beauty about videos is that you can always pause, rewind and replay it if you are not sure. In fact, you play the video and simply follow it step by step.
