wow, this is cool! It is suprising how many douche bags feel the need to pick it apart. These are probably the same guys who have never been in a real fight and think MMA looks gay.

@sjawarrior You have never dealt with a real blade if you think hanging back and using a parry is gonna be your go to move in a situation you are not running from. This looks about as real as you can get without steel. Ill say this too, if you ever have an opportunity to do the real thing, want to stay alive, and are not running away for some reason, your focus had better be offensive. Your best defense in a real environment is KILLING the other person. Stay safe and train hard.

@TheVoltaicUnion i agree as it does NOT follow the arts of eskrima kali or arnis. ive watched videos...not on youtube.....of the history of stickfighting. on rare occasions they used a stick to fight when a sword wasnt available. and then they sharpened them. im going to practice with sticks. spar with the hit foam series by century martial arts and eventually work my way up to light sparring with dull and unpointed blades. this is realistic and points and refs will be used.

Honestly, I think this is bullshit. What he says at the beginning: No points, no riles, no refs. That makes this just beating your opponent to a bloody pulp. As an Eskrima/Kali/Arnis practitioner, I think this is fairly stupid. But, that's just my two sense. - Storm.

brutal.effective. it is the eptiome of stickfighting. heres the ticket though. its a stick. if someone where to come at me with a stick i would use my jiu jitsu on them. this stickfighting was used by the arts in replacement of a sword and or knife as a safe means to practice. is this brutal and effective? yes. is it realistic? no. gloves are worn. people grapple most of the time. im not against either. modern isnt always better. neither is old. one hit with a stick/sword ends a fight. sorry.

While I love the enthusiasm and courage these guys display, I can't say I totally agree with the format. Granted, it's a very close representation of what a stick fight could be like, but the complete lack of control in some of the bouts seems to suggest these guys are getting a little to comfortable in the safety measures offered. Treat the olisi like a live blade; defense before offense. That said though, awesome.

@ubersum1 To be honest man this isnt really about the art its about self defence.

The art behind it is all well and great but if thats your focus dont complain about the competitive nature behind the sport.
