Tunisia's Islamist Ennahda party has won Tunisia's elections, garnering 41 per cent of the vote in the country's first elections since the fall of Zine el Abidine Ben Ali.
But as supporters celebrate victory, some opponents are unhappy with the results.
Al Jazeera's Charles Stratford reports.
@sigmapleide Still I would only vote for Islamist parties as the sittuation is now. The Islamists are the only parties critical enough towards the west. Without this sence of critique the revolutions will truly fail and emancipation from the west will never be achieved, and all hopes of true democracy will disappear. While the Salafist in Egypt er somewhat "extreme", the brotherhood on some points still "traditional" the Ennahda party is very modern and democratic, much like Erdogan and AKP.

@sigmapleide The people democratically chose them, as the people have in morocco, algiers, libya (transitional peoples government = islamist), Egypt and Kuwait. The wave is spreading through out the entire middle east. I'm not an Islamist but secularists by idealogy.

It's really sad for Tunisia, the victory of an intolerant Islamic party. The revolution has been vanified.

At least in Tunisia all religions and races are co-existing and living together .Muslims, Christians, and jewish are living together .There are mosques , churches , and Synagogues .Jewish have their pilgrimage rituals in Tunisia , n they have more synogogues in Tunisia than in Europe .Tunisians are fine , just leave them alone .Save your advice and opinions for ur selves.

We don't need your lessons , keep them for ur selves n ur countries. For those who do not know ; the new Tunisian parliaments consists of about 25 parties; Moderate Islamists , Nationalists, Communists, Revolutionists, Maghrebists ,Liberals , Conservatives , Nasserists , etc.... That's the democracy .Concerning the candidates from the Aridha Chaabia , some of them were caught bribing others to vote for them , others don't have the right to be candidates coz they worked with BenAli.

It's quite an emotional moment, the 1st elections when Tunisians actually participated in a democratic election, but the exclusion of several candidates (of the Aridha Chaabia) who won seats, namely in Sidi Bouzid, where it all started, is not a positive sign for the future of Tunisian new democracy.
