Ronnie Hawkins - John Henry. The Folk Ballads of Ronnie Hawkins - Roulette Records 1960. Born Jan. 10, 1935, Huntsville, Arkansas. Rockabilly. Formed the Hawks in 1952. To Canada in 1958. Assembled the group The Band. First cousin to Dale Hawkins.
that picture of the 4 of them is Ronnie, Levon, Jimmy Ray Paulman, and will "pop" Jones, I think. I'm sure of the first 3. that's the original band from 59. This is the core of the second band: Ronnie and Levon and Fred Carter Jr. and Stan Szelest, with a studio bassist (Bob Moore) and a young Robbie Robertson on 2nd gtr. The crazy lead break is Fred Carter Jr. & the backups are by the Anita Kerr singers.
Ha! Even the Canadian rockers are folkies! It's easy to see Levon Helm in this picture, but are there any other Band guys in it? That could be Garth Hudson.
