Give Up Yer Aul Sins - Story of Saint Patrick

Based on the original recordings taken by Peig Cunningham in Dublin schoolrooms from the 1960's, (subsequently re-discovered and released by EMI record) this film dramatises the event as a TV crew arrive to record the children and we are treated to the story of Saint Patrick told as only children can. It received an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Short at the 2001 Oscars.
Give Up Yer Aul Sins has screened in almost 50 film festivals, including The Galway Film Fleadh (where it won Best Animation), Cork Film Festival (Best Irish and Best International Animation), Cartoons on Bay (Special Award for Original Idea), New York Comedy Festival, Boston Irish Film Festival, Aspen Film Festival and Cannes Film Festival.

@darnmarr Thanks for making the girl's story clear to us all. You must have done a lot of hard work. That's what I like about irish people. You're all very eager to share with people of other nationalities your culture and would take ALL the time and pain in the world just to let ONE person understand your culture better. and He said " I.. won't keep it 'in' for them, I'll go back to them and I'll save their souls" and this day he asked the pope could he go,and the pope said 'yes' and he could bring a few friends with him; and so he brought his best friends with him, and when they got there, they didn't know where to start, so he said

"We'll let you go away" and so they went.. he went away to the college. Even though he was smart, it takes you seven years, to be a priest. and so, he went away to the college and this night, he was a priest and then he was picked for a bishop, and so

didn't um.. he wen.. wasn't he goin asleep this night? and he thought he heard a little kid sayin: "come back patrick, come back patrick and tell us about god."

and so, any other young fella would say: " Well you left me there for six years,!"

and they were delighted, and so, he then,..because the... he thought...they thought he was lost because there was no guards, there was no papers or anything, no speakers to tell you...anything...and so if you were lost over here there would be a wireless to tell you... or something, and so...didn't um...Pat... the made this 'best meal' for him, and so, he was at the meal and he said:

"I'd Love to be a priest , will you send me away to a college" and so,they, he said,

they said:"Yeah"

and the boat was rockin 'n' rollin' and all, and then...

the..the sailor come up and said: "that's all over not lettin' that little boy on" and so

he said " Go up after him, quick- before we drown and tell him that I've changed my mind, that I'll let him on, and so he went up after him and said, he said

" he changed his mind you're to come back!" and so poor patrick went on the thing..the boat.

and he went home, and so, his mother didn't know who he was, and so, he told them his name,
