German Constitutional Lawyer who spearheaded the challenge against the Lisbon Treaty (LT) in the German Constitutional Court. Speaking in Dublin on 21 September 2009, he said that the most important justification for EU integration, the obligation for peace, is abandoned by LT, and that the Union is giving itself the right to war. He said the traditional neutrality of Ireland is being respected, but is no longer relevant in the new 'asymmetrical wars' (against terrorism etc).He suggested that the protection of fundamental rights has come into bad hands (the European Court of Justice) and that the European Charter of Fundamental Rights weakens the protection of fundamental rights. He concluded that unless the Irish say NO on 2 October, the people of Europe will face exploitation, war and injustice.
