The Pied Piper Of Hamelin was originally created as a Sunday night TV special in 1957, by the Dumont Television Network, in an attempt to compete with early network TV broadcasts of MGM's The Wizard Of Oz. It was not originally intended to be a theatrical release. In fact, after its original TV dates (the first being November 26, 1957), it vanished into obscurity for many years. The music here is by Edvard Grieg the great Norwegian composer, from "Allegretto tranquillo egrazioso" (Norwegian Dances Op. 35)
With that said, I certainly enjoyed this movie. Prestige! :D

@speedtraceur Some people have such sick, sick minds. Sadly, for about a split second the thought crossed my mind too. >.< It's hard in our corrupt day and age to watch this scene and think otherwise, and the interpretation of the Piper in this movie is slightly creepier than in other versions I've seen.

@RolfLarsson He steals the children of Hamlin when the officials refuse to pay him for his services in removing all the rats. That's why we have the expression "paying the piper".
This movie has a slightly different ending though.
