Pueo chant and dance

While walking through Lava Tree State park we happened upon a halau performing a funeral ceremony for one of it's members. this is the pueo (owl) chant and dance where the owl comes down off mauna kea, bringing with it cooler temperatures and taking the spirit of the person away.

I have never seen this before, I grew up in a hula family and one of our aumakua is the Pueo. The dance costume looks California Indian, Hawaiians did not paint their faces. What lineage does this come from? I am sorry for the loss of the haumana, but I am not sure if this is a Hawaiian ho'olewa.

@deviantbadger I do not know the name of the halau, but the leader said this was a funeral ceremony for one of the members. To me it seemed like a mix of new age spirituality with Hawaiian custom. The halua is based in Pahoa I believe.
