My wife and I picked this song-separately- for our wedding in Las Vegas. My mother was a Jim Reeves fan in the fifties and fell apart as Ursula and I danced together to the beautiful melody and lyrics that had many in tears..

A GREAT singer but as always gone too soon! I have LOTS of his records! GREAT POST!!

I used to listen to this song on my brother's gramophone....the kind where you had to wind it first before you could play what felt like a "rock" hard plate.... lol... Feels a like hundred years ago! I just about knew every song of JR's. I still find myself singing these songs just out of the blues. Thanx so much for sharing.

noteverton-well said! In the 60's i would never listen to middle-of-the-road music, then i started singing for a living, and realised how good people like Jim Reevesare!

You know, as a hard core rocker-a big Zeppelin fan etc, this used to be considered "dad's" type of music. Then I started singing in a band. Wow did that change things! I still love my rock, punk, metal etc, but now I crave to hear people who can really sing. This song has such a beautiful melody, every note is spot on, every word is clear and every line is meant. Then there's Patsy Cline.
@ApaiSai I,too,am a hardcore JR fan...Over the years, I've tried to collect as much of his music as I could...even have some original RCA vinyl (albums)...There will never-ever be another "Gentleman" Jim...

No human being will ever sing the way Jim Reeves did. The rich, mellow baritone that characterized the uniqueness of his music, comes out clearly in this classic. No wonder the this song stayed for a long time at the top 10 of the UK music charts..!
