in this case (Jeep) i think it´s not necesary remove the drive shaft, it´s possible put neutral in transfer case (only in 4wd) i other cases but... will remove the driveshat

In fact, propeller shaft is an alternative world for transmission shaft or drive shaft! Just look on Wikipedia for example!
