Tracking a demo for a new Brant Christopher song "In The Light"

Drums: Chris Baker
Guitar: Rick Huffman
Bass: Shaun McDowell

Drum kit: Gretsch Renown maple in autumn burst (12/14/22"), Pork Pie Big Black Brass snare (6.5 x 14")

Cymbals: 13" Zildjian K hi-hats, 16" Zildjian K Custom Dark Crash, 22" Dream Contact ride, 17" Zildjian A Custom crash

Heads: Snare - Remo Ambassador (coated) over Remo Ambassador (clear), Toms - Remo Vintage Emperor (coated) over Remo Ambassador (clear), Kick - Evans EMAD2 (batter), Gretsch stock ported logo head (front)

Mics: Snare - Shure SM57, Rack tom - Shure SM57, Floor tom - Sennheiser MD421, Kick - Shure Beta 52, Overheads - Shure SM81 (pair)

Recorded through a Presonus FP10 into a MacBook Pro running Logic 9 Studio.

Post processing of the drums done using Toontrack's EZ Mix plug-in. Some compression on the bass and overall mix as well. Just a quick & dirty mix, really.

  • very nice! what crash cymbal do u use?

  • @2BigBoom The left crash is a 16" K Custom Dark Crash. The right one is a 17" A Custom Crash. The ride is a 22" Dream Contact series ride (which crashes really nicely, also)

  • Nicely done guys !

  • This is some cool stuff guys. Great job!

  • Very good sound, I liked ... I'm listening every day.

  • I dig that bassist too haha!!

  • As always nice groove throughout the song. Lovely to watch.

The only downside about it is not hearing the bass drum because it would highlight even more your performance. The way you use the bass drum is just my style, on the spot ;) Just put it a bit higher, just my 2 cents.

    All the best
