Washington, D.C. What would the Reid health care bill mean for small businesses? More taxes, higher costs and new mandates. For workers, the bill would mean fewer jobs and lower wages, U.S. Senator Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., a former small business owner, said in a speech on the Senate floor late last night. Enzi used examples from Wyoming businesses about the impact this bill would have on them and their employees.

How would more taxes, higher health care costs and heavy-handed mandates help our small businesses grow and create new jobs? Enzi asked. They wont.

We all agree that the status quo for health insurance is not acceptable. Equally unacceptable, however, should be any proposals that make the current situation worse, especially for small business. Unfortunately, that is exactly what the Reid bill would do. It will be the effect of sand being poured into the gears of the engine that drives our economy.

The experts agree the Reid bill would mean fewer jobs and lower wages for American workers. We have lost nearly three and a half million jobs since January, and our unemployment rate is at a 26-year high of 10.2 percent. How can they even consider putting more jobs at risk?
