While thinking of which record to choose next, I happened to watch "Singing in the rain" again on tv. In this legendary musical Gene Kelly serenades Debbie Reynolds with this classic song by Nacio Herb Brown and Arthur Freed. It then dawned on me I had a very nice rendition by the Broadway Nitelites....
So here it is...

"You were meant for me" was first heard in "The Broadway Melody" (1929) and was used again for "The Hollywood Revue of 1929"... This was the (early) heyday of musical pictures and many - now classic - songs were introduced in those early days of "talking pictures".

I decided to make Joan Crawford, one of my Hollywood favourites and the epitome of Hollywood glamour, the star of this video. It shows some pictures of the young Joan Crawford as well as some scenes from "Our modern maidens" (1929), her last silent MGM picture... In this follow-up to her breakthrough picture "Our dancing daughters", she starred with Anita Page, Rod La Rocque and Dougkas Fairbanks jr.... The song certainly suits miss Crawford....

About the record :

Columbia 5374/mx.147920.

The record produces quite a lot of crackling, yet I love this upbeat song so much I really wanted to present it... It was transferred without modification.

Sound equipment used :
Shure M78S cartridge and N78S stylus
Turntable : Stanton T.90
TerraTec 78RPM Phono Pre-amp

After processing, this video will also be offered in HD.
However whether this function works will depend on your Internet connection and the abilities of your computer (your screen may freeze).

After uploading it will take some time for the image to be fully processed (and become sharp)

  • Beto, com carinho "for you"

Quem mais enviaria um vídeo de 1929??Bjs

  • Arguably is right. She had a horse face.

  • Joan, in the 1930s, was arguably one of most beautiful women every born.

  • This song actually reminds me of all the rainy afternoons I spent with my Mum, Dad and sister, listening to some good old jazz. Sweet smell of childhood... :))))

  • WHAT A WONDERFUL JOB YOU DID ONE OF THE BEST ON YOUTUBE THANK YOU SO MUCH LOVE THE SONG AND JOAN AAAAA++++

  • Nacio Herb Brown wrote an earlier song called The Doll Dance (1926 or 1927) that sounds very much like this song along with a few others. Nice video too. With youtube, she doesnt have to be remembered just as mommie dearest.

  • This song is also in the Cary Grant movie "Penny Serenade" THANK YOU for putting it on! I love it!

  • do you have Bing Crosby's version? If so, can you post? I've been looking for this all over to no avail...

  • Woow, miss Crawford and this wonderful music as a background is too much! Many thanks!
