This particular safety is a little bit of an advance type shot but one that will pull your butt out of the fire many times if you play a lot of competive pool.
As I said in the original post, You need to practice this and any other complicated or finesse shot and become comfortable with your own success ratio. You can then choose wisely as to when and how to attempt a shot in an actual match.
This safey technique is a life saver in almost any pool or billiard game so you want to learn how to execute it reliably.

Thanks Bart, as with most pool shots it is difficult to create the exact type of pressure that you will face in competition. I like pressure because it tends to focus me more but I see young & new players who totally crumble with the slightest amount of pressure.

The preshot routine is a great way to circumvent the pressure of any situation. When I really get into a groove and am shooting in that zone I will find that I am doing all of my preshot routine as if in a trance! Still work to do!

thats a nice shot man, many great players wouldnt even think of it let alone be able to do it. 2/4 is pretty damn good for a shot of that difficulty. perfect precision of english and power is hard to control.

Nice Big Tom, difficult shot, especely under pressure. I practice a lot on those kinds of shots, a bit too hard, too soft, too much english , too too toot and I become a train :-) Take care. Bart
