This is more nitpicking than anything else, In the prequel she had to switch the tanks for it to work so they gave a reason why it didn't work. As for the teeth, your 96% of the enamel on your teeth are calcified cells, they're dead, they can't be "absorbed and replicated". So i'm guessing the alien forms fake teeth cellularly to best replicate its host, same with finger nails, etc.. By doing so the fillings will be disposed of

the thing is a good movie but you can pick holes in it.1st isn't it foolish to tie 3 men together on a sofa knowing you may have to use a flame-thrower on one of them(sloppy plan)
2nd how do you cut a perfect rectangular slab of ice from the ground.3rd why is the alien on the surface while the u.f.o is much deeper.4th.bad idea to lock blair(who is now dangerous)in the tool shed above all places.(he'd be out in an hour)and how could an alien copy your memory,experiences that give you personality.
