Can you please cover the basics of music and song creation for new beginners (that do not have a clue but want to start creating) so we can create works for our videos. Maybe this could be a series.

Some of the things forefront in my mind are:

1) In a song what should come first, the words or the music?
2) How do we write a song?
3) Is their a structure it needs to follow?
4) What does song phrasing mean?
5) How would we pull an experience from our life into a usable song?
6) Is there anything else we should know about lyrics?
7) How long should a song be?
8) Do you know of any descent next to no cost (free or shareware) music creation and editing software?
9) What are your opinions about the 2 software's (Kinetic 2, Fruityloops or producer Edition (download version) listed below?
10) Is there other music creation software you prefer? If so could a beginner use it?
11) How many songs and or music pieces are needed to qualify as an album?
12) Is the background music used in films different then music used for an album?

  • You don't have to make your own music, just to avoid copyright issues and lawsuits. There are plenty of folks giving away royalty free music, that you could use for free in your productions. Many pieces are released under Creative Commons licences. See these links for some examples (replace the (dot) with a literal dot):

  • Thank you for adding your post.

  • I highly recommend Kinetic 2 and sony Acid pro, I have searched for years for the right software for me, and those are the ones with the easiest learning curves + very powerful. Also you should have a look at vst instruments and filters, this changed my world! If you would like more details, don't hesitate to send me a message!

  • Thank you for the info. I will look into it as well.

  • ...and I had good hair like you once. Welcome to your future. Good playing by the way Alex. Latter

Hope you have found some answers for your self since posting your comment.
