The Institute for Industrial Technology has been helping many poor families (hunters, petty traders, teachers, artisans, etc.) in Nigeria to break the cycle of poverty, thereby forestalling associated societal ills including youth unemployment, criminality and other forms of juvenile delinquency. This is being achieved by providing children from such homes with relevant technical-vocational skills training. IIT sources scholarship grants/donations from men and women of good will for these youths who are between the ages of 17 and 21 years, to enable them undergo the 3-year training program in Electromechanics; a course that combines mechanical, electrical, electronics, automation and work ethics subjects.
IIT was set up in commemoration of the centenary of the birth of Saint JosemarĂa Escrivá, the founder of Opus Dei, an institution of the Catholic Church.
