Gaza Protest NYC

This was taken at the Palestinian Protest against the Gaza Siege in New York City.

While venturing to the other side to get some shots, groups of protesters (many of whom were bused in from out of town) of maybe 2,000 rushed to fill their assigned pens on Broadway. But they also chose to spill onto the sidewalks, making my journey to the front a little bit difficult.

Of course, I passed alot of familiar faces along the way, Crazy Rabbi Feinberg being one of them.
(Note: this was on a Saturday, the Jewish Sabbath).

Other Sabbath breakers included the Neturei Karta. (I hear those hats cost over $5,ooo each!!!)

I thought it amusing to see that somebody had brought a Turkish flag with the image of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the father of modern Turkey. For those unfamiliar with who he is, Ataturk is the one who almost single handedly transformed Turkey into a secularist society, with the greatest opposition from Islamists in the country.

It was Ataturk who abolished the caliphate in 1924 and instituted a number of other controls on political Islam in Turkey, many of which remain in place to this day. He instituted restrictions on various Islamic observances, secularized marriage law, mandated that Turkish be written in Roman rather than in Arabic characters, and above all monitored mosques and regulated preaching within them, making sure that the tenets of political Islam were not taught.

Ironically, his image is at a rally in support of Hamas, a radically Islamist organization currently in charge of Gaza. An example of political Islam as ever I've seen it, whose longterm ambitions is to make Gaza into a fundamentalist Islamist state.

I'm sure he would be spinning in his grave to see this.

The solution to free Palestine is not to wait for others to give it but rather for Arabs to unite, boycott American and Israeli products, and force the discussion. If it means that Arabs unite across the world and protest together against the American/Israeli partnership, then I say let's do it and stop the genocide of Palestinians.

it was not until the late 1929 that secular humanists began to push our Christian hertiage out of the way. The forefathers were NOT perfect but they did leave England to worship Jesus Christ in FREEDOM! When "no state religion" they were saying no catholics, baptist, pentecostal, methodists, angelican, charismatic, etc, but ALL Christians. You could be pluralistic in this respect.
