  • @rondell922 i think that bishop mason called them elders because that's what they were.. mason himself was called elder mason by the old timers. the COGIC he was over was not organizationally the same as the one that exists today.. J.O.Patterson turned it into an ecclassiastical organization around 64 when he was exec. secretary with all the pomp and ceremony. it was originally congregational in form... no prelates but a senior bishop. the office of bishop was literally the senior elder.

  • E. M Page, R. H. I. Clark, D. J. Young, James Brewer, Daniel Spearman, and J. H. Boone. These men organized the first pentecastal General Assembly of the "Church Of God In Christ" (COGIC) Elder C. H. Mason was unanimously as General Overseer. They were called Overseers then and later changed to Bishop by Bishop J. O. Patterson in 1964.

Those who responded to his call was Elders E. R. Driver, J. Bowe, R. R. Booker, R. E. Hart, W. Welsh, A. A. Blackwell
