Sarah had a stroke in May 2009 and has recorded a series of You Tube Videos to chart her progress. She has aphasia, meaning that the language area of her brain was affected. Sarah still has problems with speech, reading and writing.

  • It's great to see Sarah progress so much since 2009. I've recently got into comunication and cognition studies, and I find Sarah a wonderful human being and a great icon for hope and tenacity and strength.

Have a Merry Christmas, and best wishes from Mexico.

  • I came to youtube looking for examples of broca's aphasia to study for a physiology of behavior final, and came across your videos. Even though the course is over, I still find myself coming back-- drawn in by the inspiration, radiance, and warmth that Sarah emits.

    Merry Christmas!

  • I have just begun studying Speech and Language Pathology in the States, and I wanted to say that watching your series of videos has given me the inspiration I was needing to want to press forward. I am so proud of and impressed by you both, especially you, Sarah, for your progress and good attitude. I cannot thank you enough for these videos! Embrace the music study, you'll love it. I want to use music as well in my therapy.

Sarah, you are a beautiful person inside and out.

  • It's so lovely to see Sarah's progress.

    Onwards and upwards :-)

  • Every new video is very amazing! Whenever is hear something about aphasia at university i have to think of your videos which made me understand it so mucht better!

    Greetings from Austria!

  • Excellent progress. Have you tried learning brail or sign language? Utilizing your motor or somatosensory cortex areas to supplement/ bypass lost function might help. I see you are partially doing this by writing things down (using visual cortex). The more angles your brain can get on a language the better. You’re an inspiration. :)

  • Her recovery from the first video to this one is incredible, totally gorgeous and endearing girl. She's bound to only get better and better, her personality would win people over alone where someone with no speech problems but has a rotten personality might turn people off, so I would in many ways still give her an advantage over many others. All the best to her for another progressive year in 2012!

  • Hello! I am an Occupational Therapy student from North Carolina in the US and we are meeting our first aphasia patients on Wednesday. • I'm a Speech and Lanugage Therapy student from Dublin, we watched these in college and I have to say it's amazing to see how much progress Sarah's made. Her determination and bravery are incredible :)
