This gets things down on a very PERSONAL LEVEL. It gets the dog used to you mess'n with the dog's mouth. It also enables you to get a good idea on the type of Mouth Manners the dog has!
Force fetching and ear-pinch hold for a retriever is like slapping water wings on a fish to teach it to swim. They were bred to do both. And if built up without aversives they will generalize to any situation and LOVE it. We do field trial work in Germany and then I integrate this in completely different situations into tricks. No pinch, no e-collar, clicker trained. Notice the clicker? Oh you don't? Because if a training tool is effective, you don't need it when the dog is trained.
Nice technique. I may try using my hand at first next time. I don't use the hold command though. I just say fetch and the dog keeps the bumper until I say give.

Couldn't make it past 0:45 for the gum chewing. Very unprofessional.
