...you said hard...lol. Anyway this was preformed by the AHS Jazz ensemble in april of 2008. Soloists: Carson Bowthorpe-Tenor Sax, Laura Wright-Piano, Tom "Tombone" Steadman-Trombone.
you`re right, most jazzbands dont need a director or leader or whatever....sometimes there are even big bands without them but
you definatly could need a real one. for example: the trumpets wouldnt`ve screwed the background in the tenor solo or your second last tone(after piano) would`ve been tight.
after all, a good schoolbandleader would`ve chosen a tune thats not way to hard for you!
no solist in this band is able to play a melody or jazzline, so why take a tune with so many soloparts?
Don't take advice from a guy who calls Band DIRECTORS "bandleaders" if he doesn't know what it's called he probably doesn't know much about it. Yes anyone can see a director leads but this is a Jazz group with multiple solos thus he only should be concerned with cues and since we're too cheap for stage crew to do mics he does it.
Exactly how often is it that you see someone conducting Improvized Solos? This certainly isn't the best from this group but if you've ever seen other clips from this group you would know the director does conduct very well ( I know him personally). It's a Jazz group not a Symphony where conducting is vital
damn! i know you are amateurs but since nobody has been honest to you i`ll tell you someting.
1. the bandleaders job ist to lead the band! this one is just glad about every microphone he can adjust, because he doesn`t know what to do with his hands!
2.the tenorsax should learn that playing a solo is more than standing before the band an playing wildly any posible tone he can imagine, especially when you got longer and complex soloparts as this one...
Have you ever listened to the tune?
