A memorial video I did for Sgt. Ryan P Baumann of the US Army. I'll probably do a better video after his funeral on Monday. A special thank you is extended to John Douglass and Justin Merriman for the use of their pictures.

Sgt. Ryan P. Baumann, 24 of Great Mills, died Friday, Aug. 1, of injuries sustained when an improvised explosive device struck his vehicle in Afghanistan. Several weeks earlier, Sgt. Baumann's convoy had been the victim of a similar attack, which he survived with only a minor concussion. Unfortunately, while returning to the forward operating base early Friday morning, Sgt. Baumann's side of the vehicle took the brunt of the attack and he did not survive. Sgt. Baumann was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 320th Field Artillery Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division in Ft. Campbell, KY.

Sgt. Baumann had previously served a tour in Iraq and was four months into his tour in Afghanistan.

Sgt. Baumann was to wed fiancé, Lauren Smith, on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009. Smith lives just south of St. Mary's City with her family. She is attending college to be a radiology technician. Her father, Jeff Smith, is the V-22 Training Continuum Integration Lead at the Pax River Naval Air Station. The V-22 Training Team would like to ask for your thoughts and prayers for the families of Sgt Ryan Baumann, United States Army, and Jeff Smith, United States Marine Corps (retired).

Sgt. Baumann is survived by mother, Cindy Lohman, of Great Mills, and father, Robert Baumann, of Jeffersonville, Ind.

Sgt. Baumann arrived at Dover, DE on Saturday and will be transported to a local funeral home this week. His funeral will be held at Brinsfield Funeral Home in Leonardtown Monday, Aug. 11 at 10 a.m. He will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery.

Frieds of the family are asking people and flags to line the funeral's procession route starting in Leonardtown to show the community's respect and appreciation for this brave young man who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect the ones he loved and the country which he fought for. The procession will depart Brinsfield Funeral Home between 10:45 a.m. and 11 a.m. and will proceed from Hollywood Road turning right onto state Route 5 north.

A memorial service will be held in Afghanistan. Sgt. Baumann will also be honored at Fort Campbell's monthly Eagle Remembrance Ceremony the second Wednesday of each month.
