  • DB, you are correct. I should have pointed out that the sides and ends should be perpendicular after you have made your rough cut.

  • On the edge jointing example, it might be square to the faces, but you're not guaranteeing that the jointed edge is at a 90-degree angle to the perpendicular edge of the board. You'd need to use a reference square to set the track up.
