  • Very nice. I have yet to hot leach and have generally cold leached ground acorn meal with several type which do vary considerably in tannins. Those hot leached nuts seem like a great chili ingredient. I use a davebilt nut cracker which shells a bushel in minutes.I really like making a 50/50 wheat acorn flour flat bread with just a little salt and oil mixed with water for a great variety of things.

  • @gwynedd1 thx i prefer the cold leach method but the three week working time is more of a home practice, hot methos i use for survival travel.

  • how did you find a rock that had a hole in it like that?

    can you use dried acorns?

  • @FLYN95 Big and bitter Small and sweet is the rule with acorns, all can be used even dried.

  • You want the water at a rolling boil before you put the acorns into it, and you want to have another pot of boiling water standing by, for the next round of leeching and transfer the acorns immediately into the fresh, boiling water. ... ... Otherwise, the tannins will bind to the starch and the process will cease or, at least, be much less efficient and complete.

  • You place the acorns in the water only when the water is boiling, otherwise you will never get rid of the bitter flavour, due to the starch in the acorns binding with the tannic acid

  • I have a very lrg black walnut tree that is loaded this year. What would you do with black walnuts?
