Transfered from a VHS taken in 1991 at the NS yard in Asheville, NC. Four six axle locos lead by a good ol' high hood GP unit arrives at the yard and drops off its train for classification. Some of the quality is lost because of the transfer from VHS to MPG. Enjoy.

  • Were the highhoods on this train, ex- Southern?

  • Its a radio control car. they use it for auxiliary power for mid train helpers. Man those were they good ol days when they used alot of power.

  • I NEVER GOT THAT BOXCAR IN THE MIDDLE

  • Yeah, a radio control car. They used to be on about 90% of the freight trains rolling through the Piedmont in North Carolina in and around Gastonia. I refer to this area as MID-TRAIN HELPER heaven :)

  • back when Saluda was still open :(

  • This video is WON! ^^

  • wow great video. around idea for me to do on my layout. ill ut it in you tube. sweet video also think NS lashups were better before they got dash 9.

  • It's a radio control car - they were often used by Southern in the 70's and 80's for mid-train locos to receive throttle/braking instruction.

  • what is the jumper car used for in between the locos for? is that a auxiliary power unit?

  • Man Norfolk Southern freight train lashups were better before the Dash-9s arrived. Now your patically see 2 or 3 Dash-9s on every frieht train
