St. Francis de Sales is the cathedral parish of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Baker and is located in Baker City, Oregon. It has one manually-rung bell which sounds the note D" (a little flat) and weighs approximately 210 kg. (460 lbs).

Overall a very beautiful Cathedral though, even with just one bell. The remodel is absolutely gorgeous especially the life-size crucifix above the alter.

They did a magnificent remodel of it. If you look on the floor to the left of the ambo, you can see the old triple altar gong which was returned to the cathedral and is now in use. I would guess that it dates from the 1880's and has a deep, sonorous tone.

It is Catholic, as is noted above.

SCHULMERICH - this is what is so disgusting about so many North American churches having been led to believe that electronic bells are «just like real bells». Typical technological crap sold at hefty prices.

According to the 1958 document "De Musica Sacra," the following text was reiterated in the late 1960's and still stands: "Every effort should be made to furnish all churches, public and semi-public oratories with at least one or two bells, even though they are small. But it is strictly forbidden to substitute any kind of machine or instrument which merely imitates or amplifies the sound of bells mechanically or automatically."

Thank you very much for this information and the effort you put in to send it to me. In our Province of Quebec (Canada), there are many church closures and many fine bell peals are being resold, at a nice tidy profit to those concerned with this «raffling off» of our religious treasures, to American «resale» experts. What a pitiful story!

I agree with the sentiment of having so many bells no longer rung--my town has nice churches with bell towers and only one bothers to ring theirs with any regularity,
