I hear you, @oldsouthern...it does sound a little flat without the harmonizing vocals but it's still nice to hear Major cover this Mayfield hit nonetheless. Thanks @VinylFullofSoul.
I have been a fan of Major Lance since 1963. Since Um um um um um um, The Monkey Time, The Matadore (I love the trumpet and piano interaction). I have loved them all. This is the first time I have heard him do Gypsy Woman. Thank You Youtube. I went to see The Major and Moms Mabley at the Office Lounge in Louisville, Ky in 64. I was just a few months short and they didn't let me in. Buggars!!
For comparison, try the album 'Um Um Um Um Um Um, the best of Major Lance, late 1963, produced by Carl Davis and written by Curtis Mayfield. The song, the songwriter, and the performer are no less than amazing!

Sound like the baseline for What You Want by Nine.

Nice version. I would love to hear this with some harmony vocals.
