I agree we should do what we can whenever possible to limit how much the animals suffer when we kill them, but as long as they are killed relatively painlessly and swiftly then I can't see why anyone should object.

I completely understand your second point though. If you immigrate to someone else's country you should have to live by their rules, not put in place your own. Halal food should be the exception, not the rule, in any Western country. If Muslims don't like it they are free to leave.

Some people have objections because of they way the animals are killed.

Personally, it pisses me off that most meat is prepared Halal to appease the minority who would be loudmouths about not being able to buy the meat because it's not prepared Halal.

It's almost enough to make me vegetarian, because of what Halal preparation entails (slit throat, hoisted to drain blood, death by exsanguination).

I'm a vegetarian only because I dislike the taste of meat (yes, I am probably the only person on the planet who dislikes the taste of chicken), and as far as I'm concerned that is the only logical reason for anyone to be a vegetarian. The whole "it's wrong to eat meat" argument makes absolutely no sense. Humans are naturally omnivores, therefore eating meat is perfectly normal for us. Anyone who thinks it's morally wrong is very naïve. Lions eat zebras, go and complain about that too. Morons.
