Instead of "transplanting" faces, couldn't the doctor have given his maimed daughter a new face thru plastic surgery? His efforts were probably always unsuccessful due to his daughters's body rejecting the new skin. That's what happens a lot after transplants of any kind. After all is said & done, it doesnt' really matter. It's just a movie. Though the doctor is truly a beast to kill young women just so his daugher could have a new face! An evil man!

The Criterion Collection version of this film is the uncut or should I say the least cut version there is available. The end of this scene goes on long enough for you to see the bloody mess of what is underneath the skin as it is lifted off but cuts pretty quickly. I believe it did run longer than that and even Criterion could not find a totally uncut version of it. I paid $29.95 for my copy of it and I think it is worth it because I like the movie a lot.

The "face-lift" here, in the unedited version, is longer and more sickening. You see quite a bit more scalpel-work.
Just an observation; I'm not saying that I crave unexpurgated gore.
thats pretty hardcore for the 60s!
