Vancouver's new streetcar line is open for a 60-day trial from January 21 - March 21, 2010, and will be open for FREE rides all day and during the Olympic Games.

The Flexity cars are on loan from Brussels, Belgium, and Vancouver partnered with Bombardier for this demonstration project after council approved the investment in 2008.

It is hoped that this trial may spur ideas on how to fully implement this system in the years ahead.

  • @svoteary That's neat. I am an ambassador for Metro in St. Louis, MO at the airport.

  • @Streetcar1743 I'm not "into" the industry as in "I really really like buses" ... I AM in the industry, as in I have been inside the deep recess and workings of a major public transit system for the last 32 years. Quite possibly, the largest system in north america. In fact, its that training that even made me decide to take up operating my own transportation company. This isnt some side-line hobby or just another driver playing buses. This is the real 180% inside out deal.

  • Public transit is good. And coal is what is needed to make electricity. In Europe, many of the long-haul trains even run on electric.

  • @svoteary I am glad you are into the transit industry. I even mentioned on your channel that I am also for Transit Oriented Development. Ripping down the crack houses, and making the city cleaner. Plus, I have never joined a gang and never will. And I think psychics are nothing but trash. I HATE being called names. I stand for truth, church, and God. I love transit and I even ride it.

  • @Streetcar1743 Ok first off, if that is light rail, I want you to tell that to the CN/CP crews that were called in to re-lay and upgrade the length of track that took nearly a year to do. Second, if electricity is such clean energy, why is it then every "green" person opposes hydro electric dams? Where on earth do you think electricity in this country comes from? It sure doesnt come from the bullshit y'all are spoutin off. I AM in the transit industry dumbass, thats why I know its dead

  • @svoteary Have you been smoking? Streetcars that run on electricity are great. I want my air to be nice and clean. There ARE light rail systems being built all over America. Tell the truth instead. Public transit moves people as well as the autombile.

  • @svoteary I don't understand your 'fly-by-night' & 'outdated technology' comments.

  • it looks freaky to see these in canada... there,s also BC transit bus's in USA

in germany it was freaky to see e series ford vans

  • @panakosXX Really? Very interesting insight on your lack of human compassion. God help you when you become homeless, I will be sure to snatch your curb away from you to build a gorgeous train station and kick your sorry ass into the street where you can get hit by a crosstown bus

You've never had your home ripped out from under you have you? Must be nice to live in those rose coloured glasses world.

  • @DJDantePierre Yea except for one thing ... Vancouver paid for this, then sent it packing. So when they decide to actually do this, there will be another excuse as to why they should waste countless millions more of tax money.

Investing in people is a far more secure thing to do than to invest in an old, fly-by-night transportation system that we dont build here in North America anymore. Did I forget to mention that its also outdated technology??
