nice vid !!! i have one question... (i'm a beginner so ;) )
you said that you can program the 16f88 with micro C but how can you connect that chip with the PC? :p because with the arduino you just need to replace the chip etc...

alright have you heard of the arduino cook book?
pretty usefull if you want to start with arduino!
code explained, easy and readable. starts easy, is a big book lot of pages, but the build up it's just really nice about it! :)

ATmel (arduino) does have an 8 pin chip. It's called an ATtiny.
