Living in a home that is adequately heated is important for comfort but vital for staying healthy, particularly for older people, children and those living with long term illnesses and disability.
Cornwall has the highest rate of fuel poverty in the South West, with almost one in five households spending more than 10 per cent of their income on heating their homes.
Community Energy Plus is Cornwall's leading charity delivering local solutions to fuel poverty, energy efficiency and renewable energy. The charity recognises that care professionals and community volunteers are in a unique position to identify households that are, or may be at risk of, being in fuel poverty and help them to take steps to alleviate them to live warmer and healthier lives.
This is the first of three films presented by Community Energy Plus's Fuel Poverty Projects Manager Alec Rice, and has been produced in conjunction with Cornwall Council as part of a training tool kit for front line workers to recognise the signs of fuel poverty. Further films cover advice on insulation and how to save energy in the home.
