Boxers Jack Doyle and Buddy Baer in training and singing traditional songs from their native lands!

Heavyweight crooners - boxers, Jack Doyle and Buddy Baer, in training for big fight at Madison Square Gardens, New York.

Location of events unknown.

M/S of Irish boxer, Jack Doyle, sparring with training partner in an outdoor boxing ring. C/U of Doyle in dressing gown - he sings a traditional Irish ballad. He then gives a speech to camera saying how his ambition to win is greater since getting married.

C/U of American boxer, Buddy Baer, leaning on ropes of ring. He sings a traditional Southern States song. M/S of Buddy sitting next to another boxer. Other boxer jokes: "if Doyle can't sing any better than that, you're a cinch to win!". Baer gives mock offended look.

  • APOLOGIES TO ALL.

I HAVE BEEN SLACK IN MONITORING THE REMARKS.

I HAVE REMOVED ALL THE NASTINESS. IT IS OFFENSIVE TO ME WHEN PEOPLE MAKE REMARKS ABOUT PEOPLE THEY NEVER KNEW PERSONALLY.

PLEASE LEAVE JACK DOYLE ALONE (and eachother), OKAY??

    ALL THE BEST

  • REALLY!

    What a DOLL he is

    A pretty good crooner too!

    Fighting For Love"...it sounds terrific!!

Did you know him very well??

Would love to see more of him.

Do you have any additional footage you can upload to YOUTUBE??

    Thanks so much for responding!

  • He was my uncle, and I met him in his later years (through the 1970's). Unfortunately he was a heavy drinker in later years and died in London in 1978. He was 6 ft. 4 1\2 inches, and his boxing weight would have been about 15 and half stone.

  • A bit of useless info... 1. Doyle married Movita Castaneda and she ended up marrying Marlon Brando but she would always send money over to Doyle who was sadly lost in a bottle of booze.

    2. He is burried in Cobh. Co.Cork Ireland and his famous saying when asked did he regret wasting all his money on drink, women and gambeling....'twas never a generous man went to hell.".

Here's to you JACK. A true Irish and Boxing Legend

  • I didn't know the great Jack Doyle was also a crooner! This is rare footage, thanks for posting!

  • @Doyle1958 How ya, I met a man at the Galway races in 76, he was dressed to the nines and huge, very elegant, surrounded by loads of people, I told my dad and he said, straight away, that was Jack Doyle. I never confirmed it but I'm confident it was.

The voice is brilliant, I think he had a huge self belief, with an occasional self doubt creeping in.

  • @RedRebel8 Common knowledge is the basic problem, in the interest of arseholes every where, lets denigrate every one who ever did anything of merit.

My town is full of drunken idiots, yap yap yap yap yap an' on an' on, they never do anything but talk about the irrelevancy's of life.

  • my dad met jack in london in the 60s, He used to be drinking in alot of irish pubs there. He was declared bankrupt in court and when leaving the court he tiped the doorman a 20 pound note.A reporter asked him how he could tip someone after been declared bankrupt .Jack replied "Style boy style

  • Heard a great version of the song "The Contender" about Jack its by David McClenaghan

  • Tragic figure.

  • Complete shite.

Provide some actual proof of this or retract your comments.

  • @ebeneezzer

Yes it did. He came back drunk with some dame, she confronted him, and he hit her. She miscarried. He used to get loaded as he was terrified of fighting.

  • Complete lies. That never happened.
