A pair of killdeeer plovers (Charadrius vociferus) have taken up residence in our vegetable garden. One plover tends to hover around the nest - the eggs are laid directly on the ground and are camouflaged to look like stones. The other plover will try to distract any animal that comes near the nest by running away from the nest and faking an injured wing.
