Bettinger's Luggage Shop Rivington Street Lower East Side New York

My cousin ELLEN BAUMAN made this delightful documentary of my families business "Bettinger's Luggage" which began in 1914 as a pushcart. My grandfather SUSSMAN BETTINGER started the business with his oldest son SIDNEY BETTINGER. My father LOUIS BETTINGER ran the store after serving in WW2. Lou ran the shop from the late 40's all the way up until the 1990's. Lou was a staple of The Lower East Side. One of the most recognized businessmen of his day. He was assisted in running "Bettinger's Luggage" from the 1970's on by his sisters, manager aunt Dottie (short for Dorothy) and bookeeper aunt Rae. My mother GLORIA BETTINGER and I, sisters MARCI AND SANDRA and brother DAN and all worked at the store. My niece VANESSA also worked at BETTINGER'S. Today my brother DAN runs ALTMAN'S LUGGAGE located at 135 Orchard Street.
