This video shows our son at 14 months displaying classic autism syptoms. Notice how he doesn't respond to his name, acts "Spacey", and is fixated on the button. He's not aware of the rest of his environment, and shows no desire to communicate. If you see these types of symptoms, let your doctor know right away, and get help started!
@littlelily613 In your comment you said your brother's autism was caused by asphyxiation. That's what i was getting at. One thing autism DOESN'T do is keep you from being a wise ass which is pretty evident from your comment. I would never assume or call anybody dumb who has this or any other disorder. I WORK with adults and children who have autism. I am a psychologist assistant. I try to make life tolerable for these people by helping them as much as I possibly can.

@daillmeskin I am not saying he has autism, just saying that a interaction does not mean one does not have autism. I'm on the internet and I have classic autism. We're not dumb, and many of us can interact to some extent and even use a computer *gasp*

@LeePutnam1 No....obviously not because you are interacting with other posters here on youtube. One of the characteristics of autism is lack of interaction with others. .

@Lillietastic Autism is a disorder and more than likely was not caused by the choking incident. There's a strong possibility that had the choking incident not had happened he STILL would have been autistic. If there is any type of mental retardation or pervasive developmental disorder then that could be the result of the lack of oxygen to the brain. Respectfully.

When I was 13 months I looked at the sky outside. Does this mean I have autism?

Wish I had seen this when my daughter was that age but, I'm glad I'm seeing this now that my son is 17mos. :) (No concerns so far for him though).

This was nearly 5 years ago. How's Derek doing these days? At the time you took the video, did you realize these were symptoms of autism, or only in retrospect?

The cause of my brothers autism was asphyxiation after birth when a nurse tried to force him to latch on and he choked. Not immunisations. The lack of oxygen meant his brain didn't develop correctly.
