Beefheart on Letterman

Tom Snyder would have done a good interview. Transitioning from Merv Griffin to CB was too much for Dave. The amount of time devoted to "Midnight Hat Size" reminds me of the Monty Python skit interview with Arthur "Two Sheds" Jackson for its pointlessness. A viewer would have wondered why a singer couldn't do song with Paul and the band. How many would have thought that CB was a new character, like Larry "Bud" Melman. An interview with Bud would have been very similar.

1982 I think. That's when the album he's promoting came out.

"If you want to be a different fish, you have to jump out of the school." Letterman and the audience barley picked up on that pun and analogy it seems. Awesome quote anyway, though.

Yeah, zappa really got into the mindsets of a lot of people. the guy was a commercial genius for that. however, his music sucks ass.

In the time it takes for Letterman to chuckle...Beefheart has contemplated the origins of man & come up with 3 theories. Beefheart's not blank, he's going to an internal world.
