The World Premiere of the GV was a fantastic success and represented a milestone for the 55 year old musician and composer behind it. JC first wrote the song in 1983 and it took him 27 years to get round to record it. And another two years to assemble an ensemble to perform it. Essentially a cycle of songs describing the sights, sounds, characters and smells of a road in North London JC originally recorded it with a Group of musicians including Pink Floyds bass Player Guy Pratt. As Guy wasn't available for the live performance JC enlisted the Bass player from his acoustic trio Tony Reeves and an orchestra of Drummers, Guitarists,Mandolin Players Percussionists and Opera Singers. The result was an impromptu performance to a silent film of the Area (made with filmmaker Simon Godley) it was a resounding success leading to discussions with arthouse cinema programmers about the possibility of taking GV into cinemas.
