Belarusian youth activist freed

The Belarusian youth activist, Zmitser Dashkevich, has been released early from Sklou prison in Belarus. Zmitser was the subject of a global Amnesty International action last year calling for his release.

In an interview shortly after his release, Zmitser said that he thought his early release was due to international pressure.

I'm glad I'm not there anymore. If you owned an apartment and could afford to eat meat you were considered wealthy... I'm not sure how much things changed since I left but that's how it was then and from what I've heard it's still the same. Except money is being wasted on hockey instead of for improving the quality of life there.
