V good book on this and the Boer war.
"Commando" Deneys Reitz. He was a boer joined at the start aged 17 and lasted right till the end. his personal story through lots of action, was a front line man.
The battle of Spion Kop ,he was there.
Best book about the boer war ever!

@FamineHead10 My great Grandad or great great grandad fought there (cant remember which) to be honest it was mostly the places with alot of Irish immigrants like Liverpool and Preston. (wonder why they chose the places with high irish immigration to fight in one of the bloodiest battles at that time)

@PrestonNorthEndFan i agree mate, iam a liverpool fan meself, i live in maghull on the outskirts of the city,i think people from liverpool are mainly thought of as the men who fought on spion kop but there was poor men from all over lancashire, yorkshire and most of the north who fought there, my great great uncle billy fought there he was from liverpool, he got the victoria cross after world war one,

One of my ancestors was in the battle of the spion kop, it annoys me that people think liverpudlians were the only ones in the battle of the spion kop. I sit in the spion kop at Deepdale every homegame.
