I would love to live like a river flows, carried by the surprise of its own unfolding. -- John O'Donohue
----------------------------------

Sweet Darkness
(from Anam Cara by John O'Donohue)

When your eyes are tired
the world is tired also.

When your vision has gone
no part of the world can find you.

Time to go into the dark
where the night has eyes
to recognize its own.

There you can be sure
you are not beyond love.

The dark will be your womb tonight.

The night will give you a horizon
further than you can see.

You must learn one thing.
The world was made to be free in.

Give up all the other worlds
except the one to which you belong

Sometimes it takes darkness and the sweet
confinement of your aloneness
to learn

anything or anyone
that does not bring you alive

is too small for you.

  • @danceswithcrayons Thank you so very much for this sensitive and lovely comment. Love is our only enduring emotion that lasts past all space and time. The way I see it, John was both a gift from God and a messenger as well. I agree with you that his dream remains alive. Peace ~

  • His beautiful books are an inspiration - we have lost such a gifted soul.

  • Thank you for this beautiful video! I cried so much, as I read something written by him that gave me comfort over the death of my partner, and as I wanted to find more about John O´Donohue I looked here and found that he already passed. Made me very sad. And only 52. Why did he die so young? My partner died being only 55, sudden heartstillstand. Oh God, all there is now is hope and pray...

  • I often used to wonder why a person who gifted the world the legacy of a wonderful book like the ANAMCARA had to die an untimely death at a young age of 52. After reading the hindu scriptures of the Upanishads, I understood that the soul never dies, that man lives many lives, each better than the previous. The body goes through the slow deterioration process over time. The fortunate ones are saved this experience. John is in a better place and still very much with us in his works

  • Beautiful - I have read his books - we have lost a rare and beautiful soul friend.

  • his books, words thoughts are so much a part of my life. x
