Honda aint the only Auto manufacturer to use cam lobe change (LIFT). Toyota's 2ZZ-GE VVTL-i (Variable Valve Timing and Lift - Intelligence) engine also uses Lift. The engine (the top end anyway) was actually developed with Yamaha.

It really is Vtec! The only difference with Vtec on the VFR and Vtec in a Honda car, is that in the VFR, the vtec switches the engines from 8 valves to 16 valves at 6800rpm. While in a car, the Vtec only changes the valve timing.

Several bikes use variable valve timing and or "cam phasing". The kawi zx-14 has a version of variable valve timing. Nearly every auto manufacturer has variable valve timing. Most just adjust cam timing thru the actual gear. Honda is the only one to have actual cam lobe change.

Yes it's a VTEC! 8 valves work up to 6800rpm for better cylinder filling and torque, even though it's about the same as the 5th gen vfr. At 6800rpm it switches to 16 valve operation. The 2002-2005 operated in this rpm range. The 2006-2009, vtec switched on at 6400rpm and off at 6000rpm IIRC. The 6th gen, 2002-2009 is the only vtec honda made in a motorcycle other than the japan only REM.

Not entirely true. The vtec systems from the 1st vtec system, REM 1983, japan only. It does switch from 2 to 4 valves at 6800. Better torque with 2, more flow, for top end power with 4.
There are many types of vtec on hondas cars. The best are the ones for performance that swap cam lobes. To me thats' what it is all about. There are mpg vtec's midground vtec's and high performance vtec's.
