A review of Visconti's Universal Travelling Ink Well, designed to fill cartridge/converter or piston-filler fountain pens of any brand and any type while on the road. I like it a lot, although it has some downsides as well.

I forgot to mention that it comes with a nice box and an eye dropper, which makes filling the travelling ink well from any bottle of ink a simple, hassle-free chore that'll take mere seconds!

  • So it's been over a year since you got the travelling inkwell - do you still have the same thoughts about it? Have you used it much? The very idea of having a travelling inkwell is certainly appealing to me, but I'm not sure if I'd use it much, especially if I can have a leather pouch to hold more than one pen.

  • @mkglobetrotter I still think this is a great invention, but it has one downside: it only holds one ink, and I have too many inks to force myself to use only one ink. So I don't use it that much. However, if I go to some place where a lot of writing needs to be done, the travelling inkwell is coming along!

  • Your videos have been a saving grace in my struggle to learn more about the products before I decide to buy. I had reservation about this ink pot, not knowing for sure if it will work well with faceted pens, like an Omas Milord for instance. The Waterman Exception has a quadrangular section and body, so this ink pot is useless on it, is that the case? Thanks

  • @autumnofmyheart I'm glad you like my videos! You are right: you can indeed forget about using this travelling ink well in combination with pens that do NOT have a round (or roundish) grip section. The opening of the ink well is like a funnel and the grip section, once inserted, will create a fairly airtight seal, allowing you to turn the pen and ink well 180 degrees (pen up, ink well down) to let gravity assist you in filling the pen. A non-round section (as on my Omas 360) will not do that!

  • @sbrebrown Yeah, I also like to change my inks often. Variety is the spice of life! ;)

  • @Blizzard4242 Yes, you're right; I just found that video on YouTube. Thanks for pointing it out! Also, the cigarette filter tip is great: that's a cheap way to replace the cotton things!

  • @sbrebrown well.. in the instructional video that is on the DVD which comes with every Visconti pen (should be around here on youtube somewhere too, just search for it) they say it's meant to be used to wipe the nib. As a tip, if it gets unusuable, you can just buy cigarette filters and use them. They're about the same and fit into the original compartment as well.

  • @Blizzard4242 I'm sure you can use the cotton thing for whatever you like! The manual states, "Inside the stopper, there is a little piece cotton wool in case of emergency." Clearly, that's linguistically improbable (the cotton's always there, not just when you're having an emergency :-)), and to me that suggests that it should be used in emergency spillage. However, it has a perfect size to clean up a nib and/or grip section, so it might very well be intendended for that. Thanks for the tip!

  • the thing in the cap is ment to be to get the ink off the nib, not for when spilling ink, so your critics at 11:00 is wrong, that's why they included the swab kind of thing, so you don't need to carry a cloth.

  • @fabrimedeiros9888. Thank you! I'm not a member yet, but I will register soon!
