Well, that's a bit extreme. I don't think anyone actually kills them on purpose. Usually, when a power boat hits a manatee, it's because they are so hard to spot... as you could see in this video. Here we were, sitting still, and all you could see of these 1,000 lb. animals, was swirls and an occasional nose sticking up out of the water. Thanks for the comment, though. I agree that power boaters should be careful, and should definitely pay attention to manatee zones.

Well FLkrakr, why don't you use proper grammar... and yes, you are probably right! =]]

You'd be scared too if you thought your video camera was gonna end up in the water!!
I'm sure he wasn't scared cuz he thought he was gonna get eaten.

The kayaks that we are paddling are kit kayaks, from 21st Century Kayaks. The model is the Alpha Centauri 14. It is a light weight, extremely tough, inexpensive kayak that you can build yourself in as little as a week.

vjfronk - Do a search for 21st Century Kayaks. I tried to post a link for you, but You Tube won't let me do that. These are GREAT kayaks. We've paddled them in all kinds of conditions, and they are very stable, light weight, and easy to paddle.

This video is pretty slow-going, until about 2 minutes & 14 seconds into the video. You'll see why we're more concerned about paddling with manatees in SW Florida, than with sharks & gators.
