Times are bad. Prices are rising. House prices are falling. There's a recession looming. A new leader is needed. It's 1930s Chicago.

With a winning smile, a machine gun and an army of hoods, local crime boss and aspirational tyrant Arturo Ui sees an opportunity. He offers protection and freedom - at a very large price.

  • great actor

  • great play managed to catch it at the abbey while it was there it was soooo worth it

  • @CailleanSara

You entirely miss the point. A dramatic script is just that ... a script. The interpretation of that script is up to the director, not the writer of the script. The interpretation is valid if it supported by the script ... the script and nothing else. Whether that interpretation agrees with the original intention of the writer is irrelevant.

  • This was the finest production I have ever seen in the abbey, If only they would bring it back for another run.

  • my group are doing this play in March so this does look interesting

  • We were in Dublin for a week last December. Saw this play. Absolutely brilliant. I "visit" the video every few months. Among other things, the play does a great job of answering the question, "How could this have happened?"

  • hey me too... prologue as well? im finding it so difficult to work out my stage direction grr... there is no actual character so it's hard to define things

  • loved it last year, I wish i could see it again

  • does anyone know if there is a video on the epilogue of this play,i have to perform it for my theatre monologue

  • ehmagawd, realyy!?
