Here is my protest against 'empire' as exhibited in my town,
Toronto, forcing us to host the latest G20 conference this
weekend past. Ridiculous numbers of cops on foot, bicycles,
horses, cars, buses and trucks, at a cost of some 1 billion
dollars to the public purse and zero compensation for lost
revenue due to decreased tourism and displaced businesses.
I filmed myself singing this song on the peninsula in Lake
Ontario where 'Tommy Thompson Park' is. Just like Mr. Thompson
who was found drowned mysteriously, one wonders if our
independence and freedom will soon suffer the same fate.
Tommy Thompson Park is a conservation area, home to a very large
population of migratory birds. At least environmentalists have
managed to get something right around here. As I started
recording the song an incredible number of Double-crested
Cormorants came towards my location from across the lake flying
in 'V' formations no more than 4 feet above the water.
Unfortunately the camera was not pointed in the right direction
so you can only see a few of the ones that were on the periphery,
but I would guess that a dozen such formations passed by. This
was not the greatest take of the song musically speaking, but I
decided to use it because of this spectacular fly by.
I was also visited during this recording session by a couple
members of our police force in a patrol boat. Even though this
location was well over 2 miles away from where the visiting
dignitaries were staying, they seemed to think it possible that I
posed some sort of threat with my guitar, portable digital
recorder and small digital camera. Well they were nice enough
about it I guess, but I confess to being rather incredulous, as
there were plenty of other folks with just as much gear as me all
about the place enjoying the sunny, albeit hazy Sunday morning.
I think the song speaks for itself.
