Aitutaki is listed in some books as one of the 50 places everyone should see before they die. The island and its stunning, turquoise blue lagoon has been the location for the US TV series "Survivor Cook Islands" and the UK TV series "Shipwrecked". This video takes you on a tour of the island and that lagoon.

This is the third in a series of short films about the Cook Islands. Find out more about the islands at http://www.cookislands.org.uk - the only independent, non-commercial guide on the internet to all of the Cook Islands

  • Indeed ain nice island considering its location...but..coral around the island is in actually bad shape!!!! Sure better then in Rarotonga, which is a dirty island...I flew back to my country with a stopover in Thailand and found that for instance Railay was by far more pretty . Even snorkeling was better, and cheaper!

  • @labium1 I can only imagine you didn't snorkel in the right places. It's a stunning experience and free if you use your own gear. If you really want to blow your mind though, head for Suwarrow (very difficult to get to) where the underwater life and the snorkelling and diving experience will beat any in the world.

  • Please spare a thought (and prayer) for the people of Aitutaki whose beautiful island has been battered this week by Cyclone Pat. Hundreds of people have had their homes badly damaged and lost many, if not all of their possessions .

  • Aitutaki is my hometown. MEAN TAUTU MEAN!!!!! I want to go home to Aitutaki.

  • I can understand that...you have a very beautiful place to call home.

  • Wow....Such beauty on God's Earth. Mi life will not be complete unless I visit the Cokk Islands and the other great islands of the Pacific.

  • It's even more stunning in reality. And if the lagoon isn't enough for you, travel agents have just voted the beach on One Foot Island as the best in the whole of the Australia-Pacific region. So there's another reason for you to pay a visit to Aitutaki!

  • I spent a week on Aitutaki back in 1988, living with some locals. Really isolated, but very loving, caring people there. I'll never forget it.

  • @teacher694 really ?

Did you remember a carpenter that made Cook Island instruments and suevaniers in vaipae named David Terepai back then ?

He use to take tourists out ?

  • @meitaki I had my own gear and was 2 weeks on Aitutaki, been around the island bike bike, took several boots, went fishing, spearfishing, snorkelling etc etc..still I stay with my opinion. Within a couple of years the coral will be completely destroyed by sea spiders.
