It's a blocker bet. Not betting opens doors for the player in position to bluff at it in a lot of spots.

Also blocker bets are used to minimize losses. If PH hadn't bet, baxter would have value bet bigger than only 12k and PH would have a tough spot because an ace can be good. And people don't value raise these small bets if they were planning to lead out for just a little bit more in the first place

Helmuth bets 12k into an 80k pot on the river? After Baxter flat called a turn re-raise of 30k behind him? I don't get this at all. If he's continuing the bluff why not bet more like 55k? If he thinks he's ahead he should have bet more also, maybe 40k. He also had showdpwn value for the first time, so why bet at all? That bet did absolutely nothing. Post oak bluffs dont work anymore...I don't get this play....at all....
